Maresuki Nogi ( 乃 木 希 典) was a general in the Russo-Japanese highly respected in Japan. He was famous for following a spartan lifestyle in accordance with the samurai code. This is reflected in all his actions and his death by ritual suicide (seppuku) and his wife to death Emperor Meiji (1912).
